Acting boss of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), DCOP Douglas Akrofi Asiedu, has been sacked from office.
This was contained in a letter dated 9th January, 2009 signed by Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, presidential appointee in charge of the Interior Ministry.
The move, according to the letter, is part of the transitional arrangement.
Mr. Kofi Portuphy, who hitherto occupied the same position, has been reassigned to take over the responsibilities of the organisation.
DCOP Asiedu who has since packed from his office says the decision came to him as a surprise.
“I received information that Mr. Kofi Portuphy had entered my office on Monday when I was not in and my secretary said he wanted to talk to me. I was in the hospital and told him I wasn’t well but he said from the hospital I should come because he has been asked to take over from me.” DCOP Asiedu narrated to Joy News reporter Kweku Obeng Adjei.
He said he received his dismissal letter on his return from the hospital and immediately complied with its contents.
Some lawyers have raised concerns over the dismissal, saying, it is unconstitutional.
The dismissal also contradicts earlier directive from the President John Evans Atta Mills to District and Municipal Chief Executives to remain in office until substantive appointments are made.
