A philanthropist at the weekend donated educational materials worth 150 million cedis to the people of Dzodze in the Volta Region in support of education in the town.
The items donated by Colonel Werner Rauber, a German Air Force Officer in charge of peace keeping operations at the Kofi Annan Center of Excellence in Accra, included 25 computers and accessories meant for the establishment of a computer laboratory and 51 bicycles.
Two hundred needy but brilliant students of the Dzodze Roman Catholic Demonstration School also received assorted footwear, school uniforms and bags as part of the package.
Presenting the items, Colonel Werner said he was committed to contributing to the development of the town, particularly programmes aimed at preparing the youth for leadership roles.
The philanthropist said he was planning to donate hospital equipment to Saint Anthony's Hospital at Dzodze, to improve health delivery in the area.
Togbe Dei III, a chief of Dzodze and Chairman of the Togbe Dei Foundation Development Fund (TDFDF), a platform for the chiefs and people of the area to harness their potentials, thanked Col. Rauber.
Togbe Dei gave the promise that the items would be used for the purpose for which they were donated.
He said the area had large tracks of land suitable for pineapple and mango production and appealed for financial support to enable the people utilise that resource.
Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister, appealed to the traditional rulers in the town to unite and mobilize the people for development, adding that no philanthropist was interested in assisting any community that was divided.
He urged the youth to make good use of the computer laboratory that would be established.
Colonel Rauber apart from the package donated 56 million cedis towards establishment of the TDFDF last year.
