Naa Puowele Karbo, Paramount Chief of the Lawra Traditional Area in the Upper West Region, has called for a clear development agenda for the region.
This, he said, would enable individuals, donors and non-governmental organizations, to contribute to such a plan for sustainable development for the area.
Naa Karbo made the call when Mr Mahmoud Khalid, Regional Minister, called on him and other chiefs during the Minister’s maiden visit to Lawra District, to introduce himself to the traditional rulers.
The paramount chief suggested the formation of a regional “Think tank”, of selected professionals, chiefs and other opinion leaders, who would be tasked to come out with a development frame work to implement decisions concerning the region’s development.
Naa Karbo said that the region was confronted with food insecurity, poverty and problems with human resource, education and health.
He said: These challenges are not insurmountable because the region has the requisite resources and talents to address them for the overall development.
Naa Karbo said the successful implementation of the Kamba Irrigation Project and tarring of the Nadowli-Lawra Hamile road would assist in facilitating the development of the area to close the development gap between the Northern and Southern parts of Ghana.
Mr Khalid told the chiefs to mobilise their people to support government to enable it to achieve its ambition of making Ghana a better place to live.
He gave the assurance that he would work for all the people and urged them to end all conflicts for the development of the region.
