Fulani herdsmen have been forced to look southward away from Konkombas settlements in northern Nkwanta in the Volta Region for pasture for their herds of cattle.This follows sustained attacks by Konkombas angered by the destruction of their farms and farmlands by cattle owned by the Fulanis. A cattle owner, Alhaji Iddrisu Ahevi, told the Ghana News Agency that 40 of his cows were killed in one of the attacks by the Konkombas who carried away the carcass for meat. The Konkombas were said to be up in arms for about one week now, killing any cattle near their settlements, alleging that the cattle were degrading their farm-lands by their excessive grazing and stomping of the land, making the raising of yam mounds difficult in addition to destroying their farms. The attacks were concentrated around Alege Akura, Bonakye, Kabiti, Alorkpatsa, Portripor, Kpassa and Damanko, all Konkombas communities north of the Nkwanta district. Mr Sekyere Bruku, Nkwanta District Police Commander told the GNA, that six people, including Mr Timothy Wudijo, Assemblyman for Kpassa West electoral area and a Konkombas Chief of Jumbo a suburb of Kpassa have been arrested and were being held by the Police in Ho to help in investigations. About three weeks ago a Police team from Nkwanta was attacked by some Konkombas at Majimaji where they had gone to investigate complaints by some Fulanis that about 30 of their cattle were killed by the Konkombas.Source: GNA
