The ruling National Democratic Congress is en-route to retaining the Jirapa seat. This follows reports of a commanding lead taken by the party in some of the polling station results released so far. Running Joy FM through results of some of the polling stations collated so far, correspondent Elton John Brobbey said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had 27, National Democratic Congress (NDC), 315 and Democratic People’s Party (DPP), 2 votes at the Roman Catholic polling station. At the Electoral Commission Office polling station, NPP, 51, NDC, 326, and DPP, 5. The NDC polled 380; NPP, 82; and DPP, 2 at the Market Square polling station. Even though the election was said to have been conducted in a peaceful atmosphere, it was not without controversy. The NPP has served notice it will reject the entire results of the election if ballot papers showing thumb prints of its candidate Mr Justin Dakorah are rejected. The party had early on raised concerns over a blot which they claim looks like a thumbprint positioned at the neck area of Dr. Francis Bawaana Dakurah, candidate for the NDC. They fear the blot could undermine the credibility of the election with the possibility of genuine votes for the NPP candidate being considered a spoilt ballot. Speaking to Joy News, the General Secretary of the party, Nana Ohene Ntow, also accused the NDC of using state vehicles to encourage people to come out and vote for the party. Campaigning is not allowed on the day of voting. But the NDC has dismissed the accusations describing them as false. General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia conceded there were blots on some of the voting papers but that was not enough to undermine the entire results of the election.
