The Parliamentary Service Board is scheduled to meet on next week Monday to decide on the issue involving former Speaker of Parliament, Ebenezer Begyina Sekyi-Hughes.Mr Hughes has come under serious public criticism for weeks allegedly stripping his official residence bare of all state assets.Mr Jones Kugblenu, Director of Public Affairs of Parliament, told Peace FM on Wednesday that the Board could not meet, over the issue before Parliament went on recess due to the “tight schedule” of the House. He asked commentators and Ghanaians at large to wait for the Board to meet, promising the outcome would be made public.Responding to comments that the Parliamentary Service Board has been slow in reacting to the issue, he noted that the Board was not relaxed as perceived by the public. The leadership of the House has not swept the issue under the carpet, but there are "rules and regulations” to be followed, he pointed out.Throwing more light on the up-coming meeting for Monday, Mr. Kugblenu said issues of soft furnishing and disposal would be high on the agenda.“The policy on disposal is not a bit clear and the Board will look at it again so that things would be clear on it.”Meanwhile the former Speaker of Parliament has broken his silence on the issue by denying any act of ‘looting’ and called on all to verify the allegations from official records."Such furnishing, soft and hard has been retained by leadership on leaving office. Vehicles provided have also been retained. If it is the view that any particular item must be paid for, the Parliamentary Service Board may so determine it, consistent with the manner of disposal to earlier beneficiaries," he said in a Statement in an advertiser's announcement carried by a number of newspapers.Story by Isaac Essel/Myjoyonline.com
