Mr. John Jabaah Bennam, Member of Parliament (MP) for Zabzugu/Tatale constituency has advised supporters of political parties, particularly those from the north not to allow partisan politics to divide their ranks to bring disunity and acrimony, which slows down development.He observed that there was always divisive tendencies among some neighbourhoods because of the partisan politics, which must be reversed.He called on the people to unite and together seek and plan the development agenda for their communities saying, "Politics is only a means of winning power but not channels of breaking barriers between brothers."Mr. Bennam made the call on Saturday at Zabzugu in the Zabzugu/Tatale constituency when he addressed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters at a gathering organized in his honour by the constituency executives.It was to thank the constituents for voting for him during the December 7 election.A crowd of NPP supporters thronged the Zabzugu Township to hail the MP for grabbing the Parliamentary seat from the NDC.Clad in NPP T-shirts they sang NPP campaign songs and drove through the main streets of Zabzugu and later converged at the lorry park where the MP addressed them.Mr. Bennam said, "For now let us rally behind the winner in the 2008 election by giving him the necessary support. This way, we can lobby for the government to tar our roads, give us potable drinking water and other social amenities and infrastructure development.""We have one Ghana with one President who we must all rally behind for the country's progress. We need only to focus our aim towards winning back power in 2012 instead of creating enemies among ourselves. We need also to start working on the ground to convince as many people as possible for the NPP to ensure massive victory in 2012 by preaching the message of peace and unity," he emphasized.He appealed to the government to consider constructing the Yendi-Zabzugu-Tatale roads to enable farmers and business persons to easily convey their products and goods to the marketing centres.He said the constituency lagged behind in development particularly in the areas of educational and health infrastructure, which needed to be given priority attention and called on the government to share the national cake equitably.Mr. Bennam pledged to use his share of the MP's Common Fund to help improve education and the poverty reduction in the constituency to justify the confidence the people had reposed in him.He appealed for peace in the district, saying that conflict was an enemy of development and stressed the need for chiefs and opinion leaders in the place to constantly embrace peace for the youth to emulate.Source: GNA
