A number of functionaries of the ruling NDC have been accused of riding in state vehicles when in fact they are not government officials.
Some of the people involved are Kwamena Ahwoi, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, John Jinapor, Seth Ohene Ofori and a host of others.
Critics say while these people have no designated roles in government, they are driving government cars.
The situation, they say makes a mockery of the president’s promise of cutting down on profligate spending.
But the Communications Director of the NDC, Seth Ohene Ofori said the criticisms are misplaced and unjustified.
According to him, all party functionaries using state vehicles are doing government business.
He said since the party gave birth to the government there is nothing wrong with party officials using government cars when they are working for the government even on temporary basis.
He argued most of the people cited as riding in state vehicles were performing governmental functions such as interviewing Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives.
Admitting he is using a state vehicle himself, he explained he was involved in the selection of DCEs in the Eastern Region.
He notes if the work they are doing is completed they will hand over the cars.
Mr. Seth says they are also entitled to allowances since they were working for the government but will not comment further on that.
