Agitation for the withdrawal of nominated District Chief Executives has taken dramatic turn with the Chief of Atebubu threatening a hunger strike over the presidential nominee.
Nana Owusu Achiaw Brempong says Sanja Nainja is not an indigene of the area and would not be entertained.
Speaking to Joy News’ Elton John Brobbey, the agitated chief expressed surprise over the president’s nominee, swearing, his subjects will make life unbearable if he is elected.
He argued Sanja Nainja only lives in Atebubu but hails from Kokomba in the Northern Region and does not understand the affairs of the district.
According to him, the president after several consultations had given him the assurance that the nominee will be an indigene of the area but is disappointed the nominee is a total stranger.
Together with his 18 sub-chiefs, Nana Achiaa said they will not work with Sanja Nainja and are prepared to go hungry for days in protest over his nomination.
Local Government Minister, Joseph Yieleh Chireh, in an earlier interview said the president is not insisting on party affiliation but demands competence and ability to deliver.
In line with that, the President, John Evans Atta Mills, last week withdrew six nominees for the position of the Municipal and District Chief Executives after similar protests and agitations.
It not clear if Nainja Sanja will be the president’s next casualty following the bitter agitations by the Chief and people in the area.
Else where in Sunyani East, youth of National Democratic Congress are demonstrating over the nomination of Kwesi Oppong for the position of District Chief Executive.
