The Pro-Vice Chancellor of University of Education, Winneba has defended the use of online platforms to assess students.
Speaking on ‘Beyond the Lockdown’ on JoyNews, Prof. Ofori-Birikorang stressed that the circumstances the world find itself – Covid-19 pandemic – must be considered in analyzing the issues.
According to Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang the Covid-19 containment measures which include closure of all schools across the country must be adhered to.
He said the UEW has developed innovative approaches to teach. He said a human face was included in the development of these.
Responding to concerns from students that data, network and power supply issues impede their use of the platforms, especially taking tests which are time bound, Prof. Ofori-Birikorang said provisions have been made for such circumstances.
All the student needs, he said is to inform their lecturer on the issue and they can take the test at a later time via the online platform.
He said the test must be taken via an online platform because the tutoring was done online and the assessment must be done via the same mode.
