The Staff of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) at Labone are currently in a state of despair as their bungalows face an impending demolishing by private developers.
The Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng upon hearing this has come to the aid of the CSIR staffers.
He urged the Lands Commission to look into the issue, which has been put before the Public Accounts Committee.
"This is a problem that runs through various ministries where property belonging to various ministry departments and agencies are not secured.
"In view of what has happened, take necessary steps, if you have to wall your properties elsewhere, kindly do so," he said
The demolishing of the bungalows was suspended after a demonstration and a stiff defence was staged by the staff.
The Trade Union Congress of CSIR says it will not relent on its efforts in ensuring the situation is completely resolved.
“The property doesn’t belong to them and so we have put security officers around to prevent them from taking the land so we get the lease properly from them”, Chairman of the CSIR-TUC, Michael Amo-Gyasi noted.
CSIR as a research entity has the mandate to coordinate all aspects of scientific research in the country and to ensure that the Council, the research institutes of the Council and other organizations engaged in research in Ghana coordinate and cooperate in their research efforts
