Gospel artiste KobbySalm is hoping Ghanians open up to his kind of music, the Urban Gospel.
Urban/contemporary gospel is a genre derived primarily from the traditional gospel music, with strong influence from and on secular pop music like rap.
According to him, people like the trend which was developed in the 1980s but are still pulling back on accepting it fully.
“I recently dropped a video for my song Obiara Nse Wo and we wanted to be a little artistic but people were tagging it as Illuminati song from the devil,” he bemoaned.
Meanwhile, KobbySalm explained that gospel music lovers are open to when new artiste like himself embrace new trends and be youthful.
“It comes with a whole package though - the ministrations, the dressing, the mannerisms - It is a complete package so you can't be ready for just the music and not be ready for what comes with it.”
KobbySalm said regardless of the challenges he is facing as a rapper in the Gospel industry he is determined to prove to people that genre goes beyond what they currently know.
“Its takes time. I understand them to a point but I feel we need a lot of time to be heard,” he added.
The Gospel artiste is currently promoting his debut album ‘In The Midst Of Comfort’.
The 20-track project features an eclectic mix of artists and bands including AfroHarmony, The FRA Band and even the afro-rock band Dark Suburb.
Other notable features include E.L, Efe Grace, Eric Jeshurun, Canton Jones and Calvis Hammond amongst many other Gospel artists.
