The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 46-year-old former professional boxer, Michael Ayitey Okai, alias “Ayitey Powers,” over an alleged threat of death against the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr Yaw Ampofo.
The arrest was made on Monday, August 24, 2026, following the circulation of a video on social media in which the suspect is alleged to have issued the threat.

According to the Police, Michael Ayitey Okai is currently in custody and assisting with investigations into the matter.
The Accra Regional Police Command said its investigations are focused on establishing the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat and determining the appropriate action in accordance with the law.
In a statement issued by the Regional Public Affairs Unit, the Police urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information concerning the case while investigations are ongoing.
The Police assured the public that the matter is being handled and that further action will be taken based on the outcome of investigations.
