MP-elect for Fomena, Andrews Amoako Asiamah has revealed his decision to join the governing New Patriotic Party's (NPP) caucus in the 8th Parliament come 2021.
Speaking to JoyNews, Wednesday, Mr Asiamah maintained his unfeigned allegiance to the NPP despite his expulsion from the Party after he decided to run as an Independent Candidate in the 2020 Parliamentary elections.
"The issue regarding what side I join has been discussed already. I have said it time without number that I am a member of the NPP by blood. There is nothing that can change that," he stated.
Although he considers the decision by the Speaker of Parliament to render his seat vacant weeks before the Parliamentary elections unfair, he indicated that he had moved on and bears no grudge against Mr Mike Oquaye or any other member of the NPP.
"As far as I'm concerned, the decision was not fair. I was not happy about it. But what can you do? It's part of life. You take it in your stride and move on."
Mr Andrews Asiamah also alluded to having been spoken to the President, although he did not disclose what was discussed.
The Fomena MP attributed his victory in the Parliamentary elections to God's help and the support of his constituents.
"The election was not easy for me especially with the decision I took. I contested against big parties like the NPP and NDC but by God's help, the constituents saw my potential and what I have done.
"They noticed my humble service and sincerity to the constituency."
According to Mr Asiamah, the unfair treatment meted to party members and the development of Fomena led to his decision to contest as an Independent Candidate.
After Mr Asiamah's victory in the just-ended elections, questions were raised as to which side he would join in Parliament.
Speaking on the matter, Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu confirmed that the New Patriotic Party had initiated an engagement with Lawyer Asiamah to join the NPP side of the house in the next parliament.
