Head of Surgery Directorate at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) says concerns registered by its staff with regards to poor working conditions have been resolved by the management of the hospital.
Dr Joseph Oppong on Joy FM, Friday, indicated that KATH authorities had begun working on the hospital challenges before its staff took to social media to draw their attention.
“These things that they are talking of, not that we are not working on them. We have been working on them and some have been put in place a long time ago.
“The processes are already in place. In my press release, I'd say that anyone who cares can come and verify,” he told Emefa Apawu.
According to him, unlike private institutions, resolving challenges in public institutions like KATH passes through appropriate channels, therefore, requires some amount of time to deal with the issues.
Prior to his comment, surgeons at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital took to social media with the hashtag “FixTheTheatreNow” to protest poor working conditions at the hospital’s main theatre.
They lamented about faulty instruments, faulty air-conditioners, poor ventilation and bug-infested furniture.
Reacting to the trend of hashtags employed by KATH staff to demand solutions, Dr Joseph Oppong described their efforts as “no news”.
“It is no news, they are impatient and are just emotional about so many things,” he said.
However, Dr Oppong used the platform to render an unqualified apology to the management and aggrieved staff of KATH for the discomfort they may have suffered over the period.
Meanwhile, the management of KATH in a press statement has urged staff to use existing official channels to communicate their work-related concerns.
