A 38-year-old cobbler has been arrested by the Kenyasi Police in the Asutifi North district of the Ahafo region for allegedly hitting his elder brother, a farmer, to death.
According to the police, Kwabena Sekyere used a wooden club to hit Yaw Ampate, 40, in the head, allegedly for teasing him of having killed their mother.
Their older brother, John Fosu, 46, also a farmer, reported the incident to the police on Friday at Kenyasi No. 2.
Fosu explained that on Thursday night, Ampate accused Sekyere of mysteriously killing their mother in 2013, which resulted in a heated misunderstanding.
Consequently, a ensued fight between his two younger brothers.
The following morning at 06:20, the suspect who was unhappy with the accusations confronted Ampate. In the process, he picked a wooden club from the floor and hit him in the head, killing him instantly.
The police arrived at the crime scene and met the deceased lying in a supine position on a mattress with the mattress partly soaked with blood.
Police initial inspection of the body indicated a cut on his occiput, suggesting foul play.
Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kwami Loh, who confirmed the incident to Joy News, said the suspect, Kwabena Sekyere, alias 'Ɛsereba', was subsequently arrested with the assistance of the youth at Kenyasi No.2.
When he was interrogated, the suspect admitted to the offence and said he used a wooden club to hit the deceased in the head for teasing him of having killed their mother.
The suspect is currently in police custody, assisting in the investigation.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at St. Elizabeth Catholic Hospital Morgue at Hwidiem for preservation awaiting autopsy.
