The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has reiterated his commitment to seeking the best interest of citizens in the country.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate of Parliament.
The statement was in reaction to comments made by the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu to the press after they staged a walkout. He said the "Speaker was behaving like he was the Speaker for the only one side." He described the conduct of the speaker as "appalling."
"He must carry the House along, you're not the Speaker of only one side of this House and yet increasingly, he's beginning to demonstrate that tendency. His attitude is not the best, it doesn't speak well of a Speaker who is neutral. I think this is very appalling. And from now on, we are not going to tolerate that."
But the Speaker, through the Public Affairs Directorate of Parliament noted, “Parliament will like to assure citizens that allegations of bias are unfounded and should not be entertained.”
Meanwhile, Parliament has rejected the 2022 Budget through a voice vote after the Majority side walked out of the Chamber leaving the Minority side to carry on with the business of the day.
