Close to 24 hours since a leading member of the #FixTheCountry Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, was arrested his fellow activists say he has not been granted access to his lawyers.
They also say they are in the dark as to his whereabouts.
The Police confirmed the arrest of Oliver Barker-Vormawor and said it was in relation to a post he allegedly made on a social media platform.
Speaking to JoyNews, a co-convenor of the Movement, Felicity Nelson, called on the Police to immediately grant the suspect access to his lawyers.
"We don't know where he is, and it took the Police 12 hours to produce a statement saying they have arrested Oliver.
"Is this the normal practice? If you have arrested someone, why is this person denied his right to legal counsel? We still don't know where he is," she claimed.
According to reports, some security personnel picked up the Cambridge University PhD student upon arriving from the United Kingdom on Friday evening at about 4 pm.
His arrest follows a Facebook comment declaring his intent to stage a coup if Parliament passes the e-levy bill.
On February 9, he posted on Facebook, “If this E-Levy passes after this cake bullshit, I will do the coup myself. Useless Army!”
Oliver Barker-Vormawor said he is willing to give up his life in his quest to see a better Ghana.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, the leader of the social advocacy group stated that there is a need for leaders in the country to establish a new order, and therefore he’ll commit all his resources for that to happen.
Mr Barker-Vormawor said he is ready to face the consequences of his actions.
Meanwhile, the Police said the arrest of Oliver Barker-Vormawor is to enable appropriate investigations to determine whether the security of the state is under threat.
According to the Director-General of the Police Public Affairs, DCOP Kwasi Ofori, it's important that such an assessment is made.
Member of Parliament’s Communication Committee Sam George says investigations must commence from whether the person can carry out such a threat even before an arrest is made.
Meanwhile, Vice President of policy think tank IMANI Africa Kofi Bentil says the Police should not spend energy on such matters.
