In fulfilling Pepsodent brand’s ongoing mission to unleash the power of healthy smiles by eradicating oral disease for everyone, Pepsodent has offered free dental screenings for the people of Bogoso-Appiate.

The goal is to aid the people of the town in accessing free dental services after the explosion and create awareness on the need to seek early dental care to prevent the dire consequences of waiting too long which can result in expensive treatments and tooth loss.

According to Elvis Twumasi, Oral Care Brand Manager at Unilever, “What happened at Bogoso-Appiate was sad. We are here to offer our support the best possible way we can. Our team in partnership with the Ghana Dental Association is here to put smiles on the faces of the people of Bogoso-Appiate by bringing free dental services to their doorstep”

“For us at Pepsodent, we cannot overemphasize that every smile matters to us. And a healthy one as such. This is because a healthy smile and good oral hygiene build’s one’s self-esteem and impacts on their overall health. We are happy that the people of Bogoso-Appiate have also embraced our gesture of dental screening and participated in it successfully”, he stated

Based on global research conducted by Pepsodent, there are 570 dentists currently serving the needs of 31 million population in Ghana which implies a ratio of 1 dentist to 58,400 people. Out of about 298 public hospitals and polyclinics, there are only 84 dental facilities in the country. Of these, only 54 clinics have equipment in reasonably good condition. The rest are in various states of disrepair. This means that visiting a dentist to address oral health problems is often delayed, or problems are not treated at all.

This effort by Pepsodent in providing free dental screening to the people of Bogoso-Appiate is a step in the right direction. Pepsodent is also providing free dental check-ups via dental screenings centres around the country. They are also televising free dental consultation in partnership with the Ghana Dental Association through their popular TV programme Time with The Dentist. Through these services, the brand aims to help Ghanaians take control of their oral health to avoid tooth loss.

The forms part of this year’s World Oral Health Day celebration, of which Pepsodent has launched a campaign ‘Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late #TalkToADentist’ to inspire people to seek early dentist attention to prevent serious dental problems and tooth loss later in life.

Pepsodent also donated cash, school bags, pencil cases, water bottles and toothpaste and brushes to the chiefs and people of Bogoso-Appiate.
