As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) has commissioned 30 boreholes for communities in Zebilla in the Bawku West District and Sandema in the Builsa North District of the Upper East region.
The institution with a national character intends to expand its CSR project to cover all the 16 regions in the country.
Communities that benefited in the Zebilla District were Timonde, Bugore, Aramkoliga, Arenga-Azuwera, Kukore, Atambugu-Agatusi, Teogo, Bulungu, Zongoiri Dagbame and Winaba—Goog-Terago.

For Sandema, some of the communities that benefited were Sichaassa-Badomsa, Abaala-guuk-Sinyangsa, Abuluk-wiaga, Siniensi Zundema, Sandema Lowcost quarters, Balansa-Yeri, Kaljiisa1 and Anarisa-yeri.
Very important to GNGC is the formation of a WATSAN (Water and Sanitaioin) committee in each of the communities trained to manage and repair minor faults to sustain the investment for generations with oversight responsibilities by the respective assemblies.
The Community Relations Department had earlier embarked on a nationwide need’s assessment exercise of thematic areas such as Education and Skills Training, Water and Sanitation, Health and Community Development Project.

To this end, Zebilla and Sandema were identified and their needs assessment required the provision of boreholes to reduce the level of water born disease, increase access to portable and hygienic water beside other benefits that comes along with the project.
The GNGC team was led by Lawyer John Darko, a member of the GNGC Board; who was accompanied by Stephen Donkor, Senior Manager, Community Relations; as well as Stephen Debrah and Sarah Kainyah all from the community relations unit.
All the 30 boreholes was completed within two months of the projected six months contract duration.
