The Upper East Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into an armed robbery incident on the Zebilla–Widnaba road in the Bawku Division, which led to the death of a police officer on duty.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred on Sunday, February 8, 2026, when two police officers travelling towards Zebilla encountered an armed robbery in progress along the road.
The robbers are reported to have opened fire on the officers, hitting one of them in the process.
Following a distress call, a police response team moved to the scene and rushed the injured officer to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for medical attention. The officer was, however, pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said the body of the deceased officer has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy.
The Upper East Regional Police Command has announced that a special police operation is currently underway to identify and arrest all persons connected to the robbery.
Police have assured the public that those responsible for the attack will be made to face the full rigours of the law, as investigations continue.
