The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation is in the process of seeking donor support to enable it establish an educational technology unit that will focus on the establishment of ICT centres and digital infrastructure in various schools.
The move is to ensure the provision of adequate infrastructure to support government’s digitalisation agenda.
Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu Ekuful made the disclosure after commissioning a Community ICT centre at Agona Abodom in the Central Region through a support from the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication, (GIFEC).

The provision of Community Information Technology centres forms part of the mandate by the GIFEC to provide digital infrastructure and stable network connectivity across the country.
The Centre established in Agona Abodom will serve the community as well as all second cycle institutions in the area.
Speaking after the Commissioning of the new edifice, Mrs. Owusu Ekuful disclosed that there are ongoing processes to secure funds for more of such facilities in the country.
“We have a programme to build ICT centres in all the Senior High Schools, we’re going through the procurement processes with the Ministry of education to provide 40 seater capacity ICT lab for senior high schools. Ultimately, what we plan to do is to seek donor funding for a standalone educational technology unit which will be in charge of rolling out the ICT digital infrastructure and instructions for the schools and students so that we can do this in a sustainable manner” she said.
She has also assured that network connectivity will be improved so the community and school children will benefit from the many government digital initiatives.
The Minister as part of the exercise also graced the occasion of the Akwambo festival where she pledged to support in the development of the community and urged them to take part in the ongoing sim card re-registration.
