A former Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, has expressed his grief over the death of Professor Kwesi Botchwey who once served in the same capacity.
According to him, Kwesi Botchwey was both his colleague and friend, during their over ten years working relationship.
Expressing his sympathy in a Facebook post on Monday, he said the death of Professor Botchwey, is a great loss given his diligence and selflessness.
In his post, he stressed on some of Mr. Botchwey attributes and wished him a peaceful transition into eternity.
"I have learned with great sadness, the passing of my former colleague and friend, Professor Kwesi Botchwey.
During my time as the Chief Economist and the Head of Research of the Ghana Commercial Bank, I worked closely with Kwesi Botchwey for over a decade and I came to know his intelligence and warmth first hand" Dr Duffuor wrote.
Dr Duffuor continued: "He was an invaluable asset to our motherland and always availed himself to serve or offer counsel on matters of our country’s economic stability. Kwesi Botchwey is and will always be an icon - a representation of the best values of this country".
"He was selfless, diligent, widely respected, kind hearted and embodied a strong sense of nationhood", Dr Duffuor further recalled.
The NDC has lost a prominent comrade and Ghana has lost an illustrious son. I extend my sincerest condolences to his bereaved family and wish them strength in these difficult times. Rest well, Kwesi", the post concluded.
The post by Dr Kwabena Duffuor adds to the number of tributes which have been pouring in since the passing of the late economist.
In an earlier tweet over the weekend, private legal practitioner, Gabby Otchere-Darko, also eulogised the late former Minister of Finance, Professor Kwesi Botchwey.
In his tweet, he said the deceased NDC cadre did remarkably well at the helm of the Finance Ministry.
According to him, Professor Botchwey’s deeds some decades ago, are still having impact currently.
Professor Kwesi Botchwey died on Saturday, November 19, 2022.
Per unimpeachable sources, the erstwhile NDC appointee died after a short illness.
This sad incident reportedly happened at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where he was receiving treatment.
Prior to his demise, he was a key member of the Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress, having played an integral role in the evolution of the NDC, from its PNDC era.
He died at age 78.
