Alisa Hotel as part of supporting continuous relief administration to flood victims in the North Tongu district of the Volta region has donated truckload of items including bottles of water, clothes, assorted food items among others.
Group General Manager of Alisa Hotel Group, Yusuf Olela, said the company was moved by the situation the flood victims find themselves in.
He told Joy Business “ This gesture is to help reduce the impact of the challenges they’re having in terms of being displaced from their comfortable homes”.
Having accessed one of the safe havens and assessed the situation there, he described it as heartbreaking.
“You find children and families together in this makeshift camp with very little amenities, so we really sympathise with them. That’s why as a brand we responded by doing whatever we can to support their livelihood while in the camp,” he added.
Yusuf Olela appealed to other corporate organisations to support the victims and asked for a lasting solution to prevent recurrence of the flooding disaster.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director of NADMO, Seji Saji was appreciative of the gesture.
The flood affected over 39,000 persons in eight districts across the country.
He said the various stakeholders managing the situation is at the recovery stage.
“We’re still at the recovery stage and trying the return things to normalcy. As you may be aware, the livelihood of the victims was compromised and this will take some time for them to recover even if they leave the camp and return to their homes”
“At the moment unlike other districts, North Tongu is still working to ensure these schools reopen as they continue to serve as safe havens. We are working with the Education Directorate and Ministry to see how best we can make up for the lost time,” he added.
