Twenty one selected health facilities across the country have received life-saving drugs from the Breast Care International (BCI) and Peace and Love Hospitals.
The package included quantities of anti-hypertensive, anti-diabetic, anti-neoplastic, anti-cancer, high cholesterol and other drugs. It was provided by Direct Relief in California, USA to assist needy patients in Ghana.
BCI and Direct Relief of USA signed a memorandum of understanding with the goal to have essential medicines from the USA provided to Ghana, purposely for needy but poor patients.
The drugs have an average wholesale value in the United States of approximately $2 million.
CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals, Dr Beatrice Wiafe-Addai commended Direct Relief for bringing joy to the deprived communities who need help, and she also pleaded with the media to monitor the various hospitals to ensure they do not sell the medicines.
“Even though the medicine costs a fortune but they are given it out for free for the sake of Ghanaians so the representatives from the various health care institutions are to make sure not to sell them to those in need,” she said.

Representatives of the beneficiary institutions promised to put the donation to good use.
“We’re very grateful to Peace and Love Hospital for the donation. We promise to use them for the intended purpose,” said Twum Barima Asante, Municipal Coordinator, Kwawu West.
