Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire has expressed his deep disappointment at not being selected for the England national team for the 2024 Euros.
He said despite his efforts, he has been unable to recover from a calf injury in time to make the squad.
The 31-year-old along with Manchester City forward Jack Grealish, both regulars in Gareth Southgate's England squad, have been left out of the final 26-man list.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, June 6, Maguire said, "I’m devastated not to have been selected to play for England at the Euros this summer.
"Despite my best efforts, I have not been able to overcome an injury to my calf. Maybe I pushed myself too hard to try to make it. Simply, I am absolutely gutted."

Despite my best efforts, I have not been able to overcome an injury to my calf. Maybe I pushed myself too hard, to try and make it. Simply, I am absolutely gutted.

Maguire emphasised that representing England is the highest honour for him, stating, "It means everything to me.
"If I can’t help the team as a player, I will support them as a fan - along with the rest of the country. Go and win it, boys," he wrote on the micro-blogging site.
Maguire has not fully recovered from the calf injury he sustained in April, which also kept him out of United’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City last month.
Grealish, 28, remained on the bench throughout that game, as he did for key Premier League matches against Tottenham and West Ham at the end of the season.
However, the former Aston Villa player did feature for England as a substitute in their 3-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday, earning praise for his performance.
