The Electoral Commission (EC) has relocated the collation of results for some constituencies in the Eastern Region to the Police Training School in Tesano, in the Greater Accra Region.
This decision follows disputes over the collation process in the Eastern Region, which became chaotic in some areas.
The move by the Commission aims to prevent further disruptions at the collation centres.
JoyNews’ Sweety Aborchie, reporting on the situation, said that three constituencies are involved: Akwatia, Nsawam Adoagyiri, and Fanteakwa, all in the Eastern Region.
According to her, there was an altercation between agents of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the collation centre.
She explained that the collation centre had been moved from Nsawam in the Eastern Region to the Police Training School due to incidents of arson at some centres.
“The issue is that NDC agents are reportedly absent, yet collation is ongoing. They are questioning how results can be collated without their agents present along with the pink sheets,” she stated.
Aborchie also noted the presence of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, at the venue, adding "I spoke to some agents, including Sammi Awuku, MP-elect for Akuapim North.
"He described the process as illegal, insisting it should be paused until the NDC agents arrive with the pink sheets.”
Meanwhile, the scene is not calm, though there is hope that the IGP’s intervention will help restore order.
