Ghana’s Sports Minister nominee, Kofi Adams, has pledged to prioritise the maintenance of the country’s sporting facilities, ensuring that stadiums and training centres do not fall into disrepair.

Speaking during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, 30 January, Adams stressed the importance of preserving sports infrastructure to support athlete development.

“There are stadiums and training centres that have been left to deteriorate over time. If we are serious about producing world-class athletes, then we must make sure they have the right facilities to train and compete,” he stated.

Over the years, poor maintenance has led to the deterioration of key sporting venues, affecting not only football but also other disciplines. Adams emphasised that under his leadership, a strong maintenance culture will be enforced to prevent further decline.

“We will not allow any facility to deteriorate to the point where we could even be banned from using it.

“With the very minimal resources we have, we will ensure that we maintain our existing facilities while also building new ones.”

His commitment to infrastructure development aligns with his broader vision of promoting all sports, not just football, and ensuring that Ghanaian athletes have the best conditions to thrive.

With his vetting now complete, Adams awaits parliamentary approval to officially take up the role of Minister for Sports and Recreation under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
