Leading member of the Movement for Change and business consultant, Richard Sumah, has called on the nation’s security agencies to take immediate action regarding the National Service Scheme (NSS) scandal, as a key suspect, Gifty Oware-Mensah, has returned to the country.
Mr Sumah emphasised the urgency of addressing the matter, stating, “Whatever the national security agencies require from her, they should act swiftly. If they have evidence against her that she is complicit in this corruption, she should be brought before the law.”
He said this while discussing the NSS scandal on JoyPrime’s News Flash on Wednesday.
Mr Sumah also expressed his thoughts on Oware-Mensah’s return, saying, “I would like to congratulate the lady for at least demonstrating the bravery to come back to Ghana. Even if it was her lawyers who advised her to return, at least she listened to them. She could have decided not to come back.”
He reiterated that corruption continues to hinder the country’s progress, calling for stronger measures to address it.
Mr Sumah further urged members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to actively work towards eliminating corruption.
Ms. Oware-Mensah, who was a Deputy Director of the NSS, is a key suspect in a case that involved forging ghost names, which resulted in significant financial losses.
She has returned to the country and is expected to meet with the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) to answer questions regarding the allegations.
