The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has announced plans by the government to establish a task force aimed at promoting peaceful cohabitation between religious bodies, particularly between Muslims and Christians in the country.
Speaking on Joy News' AM show on Wednesday, April 2, the minister emphasised the importance of fostering unity and understanding between the country’s religious communities.
He stated that the task force would play a critical role in addressing religious tensions and ensuring harmony between diverse religious groups.
"The President has instructed us to constitute a task force on both Christian and Muslim religions because these are the two biggest religions we have in the country. And the task force in those two areas is going to serve as an interface. We want to bring what we call religious cohabitation and we want to depoliticise those issues."
He reiterated that the government remains committed to ensuring that religious and chieftaincy disputes do not escalate into conflict, which could harm communities and the nation's overall well-being.
