A heated debate unfolded on JoyNews’ Newsfile following the controversy surrounding allegations made by, Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour concerning two aircraft allegedly linked to drug trafficking and money laundering.
Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), called for the arrest of Rev. Fordjour, insisting he must substantiate his claims or face legal consequences.
Mr Gyamfi argued that in other jurisdictions, such serious allegations against a sitting government would not go unpunished if found to be false.
“In other jurisdictions, he would have been blacklisted.
He stressed that if the MP refuses to honour a National Security invitation, he should be arrested and compelled to provide evidence to support his claims.
“If he doesn’t honour the invitation [by National Security] to him and he thinks that he can hide behind his parliamentary privileges, he lie bad. Because he will be arrested. Some of us will insist that he is arrested and you must substantiate that.”
But the Ranking Member on the Defence Committee would have none of that.
"Sammy, I dare you to call them to come and arrest me right here in the show," Rev Fordjour retorted.
This follows the Minority's demand for transparency from National Security after an air ambulance and a private jet reportedly stayed in Ghana for several days before departing to Gran Canaria, a Spanish island.
Rev. Fordjour, citing intelligence, claimed the aircraft could have been transporting illicit substances, including cocaine and large sums of U.S. currency.
Government officials, including the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, have dismissed the allegations as baseless, accusing the MP of spreading disinformation without verification.
