General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has criticised the presence of National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) officers at the residence of Rev Ntim Fordjour, describing the move as unnecessary and in breach of due process.

Addressing the press at Rev Fordjour’s residence at Spintex in Accra, Mr Kodua expressed disappointment about the development, stating that the incident could have been handled more appropriately.

“The chaos was needless, unwarranted. At least if indeed they were showing good faith, they would have gone through the due process,” he said.

He explained that under parliamentary procedure, the proper step would have been to notify the Speaker of Parliament before engaging a sitting Member of Parliament in any state investigation.

“They should have written to the Speaker to invite the MP for questioning or to assist in an investigation not this Rambo style,” he said.

Mr Kodua stressed that the party would not tolerate what it sees as acts of intimidation targeted at its members.

“We want to assure them that the NPP is united more than ever, and none of our members will be intimidated,” he stated.

He further noted that given Rev Fordjour’s contribution, the government should be showing appreciation rather than sending the NIB to his residence to execute an arrest warrant.

“By this time, we expect the government to commend him,” he added.

Rev Ntim Fordjour has alleged that two aircraft, which recently landed in the country, were involved in money laundering and illicit drug trafficking. He has since called on the government to investigate the matter and address the public on the issue.

Following his statement in a press briefing at Parliament, the government's spokesperson, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, responded, refuting the allegations and describing his comments as false.

He explained that the aircraft had landed in the country due to minor technical faults and other legitimate reasons.

The development has since sparked political tension between the two major parties, the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
