The Chairman of the National Economic Dialogue Committee, Dr Ishmael Yamson, has called on President John Mahama to honour his pledge to ring-fence proceeds from the just introduced GH₵1 levy on every litre of fuel sold in the country.
Addressing journalists shortly after officially presenting the 2025 National Economic Dialogue Report to the President, Dr Yamson described the new levy as a step in the right direction, noting its potential to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s fiscal consolidation efforts and developmental agenda.
He added that safeguarding the levy through ring-fencing would not only ensure its effective utilisation but also help sustain the public trust and goodwill that accompanied its announcement.
The GH₵1 fuel levy, approved by parliament recently, has been earmarked to support infrastructure development, stabilise the energy sector. However, some opposition voices have expressed concern over it, arguing that it is not needed.
