Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has fully funded the surgery of nine-year-old Setor, a young boy who had been walking to school with the aid of a plastic chair due to a physical disability.
The compassionate gesture follows the Minister’s earlier pledge to cover the medical costs, which he honoured without delay.
Setor’s story came to public attention a few weeks ago, prompting widespread sympathy. True to his word, Dr Boamah not only paid the full cost of the surgery but also maintained regular contact with the young boy and his caregivers.

According to the charity worker who brought the case to light, the Minister called almost daily to check on Setor’s condition — a rare show of personal concern and dedication from a high-ranking public official.
In addition to settling the medical bill, Dr Boamah invited the charity worker to the Defence Ministry to finalise arrangements and offered further support beyond the surgery.

The charity worker, who has spent eight years supporting vulnerable children, described the Minister’s humility and kindness as “unprecedented”, adding that this was the first time a Sector Minister had demonstrated such sincere compassion.
Setor has now been scheduled for surgery and is expected to walk unaided in the near future.

The charitable community and well-wishers have since expressed deep gratitude to Dr Boamah for going above and beyond his official duties to bring hope and healing to a young Ghanaian child.
