President John Mahama has officially launched a major poultry farming initiative aimed at boosting food security and supporting smallholder farmers across Ghana.
Speaking during the launch of the 'Nkoko Nkitinkiti' initiative on Wednesday, President Mahama explained that the programme, part of the Food Systems Resilience Programme, will support 500 small and medium poultry farmers nationwide to produce three million birds.
“The government is going to distribute three million birds across all 276 constituencies of this country, with each constituency receiving 10,000 birds, benefitting approximately 60,000 households nationwide,” President Mahama stated.
He added, “Each household participating in 'Nkoko Nkitinkiti will' receive 50 birds, along with key support and technical guidance to ensure the sustainability of their project.”
The 'Nkoko Nkitinkiti' initiative is a nationwide programme aimed at transforming household poultry production and revitalising Ghana’s poultry industry.
The programme is designed to empower smallholder farmers, create income opportunities, and strengthen food security, while providing practical assistance to make poultry farming a sustainable and profitable venture for households across the country.
