Big Chef Season Five returns this Sunday with a Gari Fotor Challenge, as the 12 young contestants face another test of their culinary skills.
After the heat, tension and excitement of the English Breakfast Challenge, the young chefs of Big Chef Season Five are heading back into the kitchen this Sunday for another test of their culinary skills.
This time, the contestants will be taking on the Gari Fotor Challenge, putting a local favourite at the centre of the competition.
Last week, the 12 contestants stepped into the Big Chef kitchen for their first challenge, where they were tasked with preparing an English breakfast in just 30 minutes.
The challenge brought its fair share of pressure and emotions, but it was Christabel who eventually stole the show with her “English-Styled Breakfast”, impressing judges Chef Michael and Chef Comfort to become the season’s first Star Chef of the Day.
At the other end of the table, Hamdiya and Tyanna least impressed the judges, landing in the bottom two and setting the stage for an even more intense second episode.
For Episode Two, the competition switches things up with a dish much closer to home: Gari Fotor.
Popular in Ghana, gari fotor is a savoury dish made by combining gari with a flavourful tomato-based sauce or stew, often accompanied by vegetables and protein. It may sound simple, but in the Big Chef kitchen, the young contestants will have to find ways to turn the familiar dish into something worthy of impressing the judges.
With the contestants now having an idea of what it feels like to cook under pressure, expectations are also higher. From choosing the right ingredients to managing their time, getting their flavours right and presenting a winning plate, every decision in the kitchen will count.
Once again, only one contestant can walk away with the coveted Star Chef of the Day title.
But there could be more than bragging rights at stake this week. With a possible eviction looming, the contestants will have to bring their best to the kitchen as the competition begins to get tougher.
Who will transform the familiar gari fotor into the judges’ favourite plate? Who will become the next Star Chef? And could one young chef’s Big Chef journey come to an end?
Find out when Big Chef Season Five airs this Sunday at 4:00 pm on Joy Prime.
Viewers can also catch up with the contestants during JP Diaries every Tuesday at 5:00 pm on Joy Prime, as they share more about their experiences and journey in the competition.
