The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has announced that it has begun investigations and instituted a special monitoring regime at the Tamale Central Hospital.
This is after viral videos showed disturbing sanitation and hygiene lapses at the facility.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 25, HeFRA said its attention was drawn to a video reportage in which a group of youth stormed the hospital over alleged mismanagement.
The footage captured overflowing dustbins and other infection-prevention breaches, raising concerns about patient safety and sanitation standards.
According to the Agency, a team was immediately dispatched to Tamale to conduct a preliminary inquiry.
The investigation team engaged hospital management as well as some aggrieved orderlies whose industrial strike action reportedly contributed to the situation.
HeFRA added that a deeper engagement process is currently ongoing, involving relevant stakeholders, to ensure lasting solutions and prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Agency stated that necessary measures will be taken to guarantee the continued delivery of safe and quality healthcare to the public.
The regulatory body appealed to the public to remain calm while it carries out its mandate, assuring citizens that it is committed to ensuring healthcare services are delivered in environments that protect both patients and health workers.
“HeFRA remains committed to ensuring the safety of the public through the provision of quality healthcare services,” the statement concluded.
