For many mechanics at Suame Magazine, the sound of engines has defined their livelihoods for years. But a new kind of engine silent, electric, and driven by advanced technology, is steadily reshaping the global automobile industry.
As part of efforts to prepare local artisans for this transition, the German Embassy–JoyNews Climate Talks held in Kumasi explored practical steps to support mechanics in adapting to electric vehicle technology.

With the requisite skills and support, artisans in the enclave say they remain confident they can also manufacture electric vehicles.

Their preparedness took centre stage at the 2025 edition of the Climate Talks, held under the theme “Innovation in Motion: Artisans at the Centre of Ghana’s Electric Mobility Revolution.” The forum drew nearly 200 participants for an in-depth discussion on practical pathways toward positioning Ghana for an electric mobility future.

Speaking at the forum, Kumi Kodua of the Light Industrial Foundation stressed the importance of partnerships in the transition to e-mobility. He said strong cooperation among artisans would be key to upgrading their knowledge in electric vehicle technology.

The German Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshoft, also underscored the broader importance of electric mobility, noting that it goes beyond climate change to include health, security, and business benefits. He warned that Ghana risks being left behind if it delays the transition.

The Suame Magazine Industrial Organisation has consequently committed to mobilising artisans and strengthening their capacity in electric vehicle technology to keep them relevant in the evolving automobile industry.
With growing momentum toward cleaner transportation, artisans at Suame Magazine have demonstrated the willingness and readiness to position themselves at the centre of Ghana’s electric mobility revolution.
