The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has commenced its planned nationwide demonstration dubbed "Democracy Under Attack," with the party raising concerns over what it describes as threats to Ghana's democratic governance.

Clad in red and black, carrying placards bearing the hashtags #DemocracyUnderAttack, #SaveGhanaNow, and #SayNoToStateCapture, NPP supporters have joined the ongoing "Democracy Under Attack" demonstration as the party highlights what it describes as threats to Ghana's democratic space.

The protest is expected to start from the Supreme Court and end at the Jubilee House, according to promotional materials released by the party.

The party says the demonstration is intended to highlight alleged restrictions on free expression, concerns over the treatment of opposition voices, and what it describes as threats to democratic institutions.

Backing the protest, NPP Communications team member and spokesperson for former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, said the demonstration was in response to what he claims are increasing attempts by the government to silence dissent and weaken democratic institutions.

The NPP has insisted that the action is aimed at defending civil liberties, the rule of law, and democratic accountability.

The planned protest comes amid heightened political tensions, with the NPP insisting the demonstration is intended to defend civil liberties, the rule of law, and democratic accountability.

The government has, however, rejected claims that it is targeting political opponents, maintaining that law enforcement agencies and the judiciary operate independently and that arrests and prosecutions are undertaken in accordance with the law.

The NPP's demonstration is expected to culminate at the Jubilee House, where party leaders are scheduled to address supporters on their concerns over the state of Ghana's democracy.
