A Warrant Officer Class II of the Ghana Armed Forces has been arrested for allegedly attempting to sell firearms to a civilian in the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, identified as W.O. II David Kofi Brew of the 4th Battalion in Kumasi, was arrested on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at about 2:30 p.m. at the Bekwai Shell Filling Station. The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation by the Ashanti South Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), led by its Regional Director, ASP Princeton Peasah Darkwa.
According to a situational report from the PID, the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to dismantle networks supplying weapons to criminal elements in Obuasi and surrounding communities. Preliminary intelligence suggested that the officer was involved in the illicit supply of firearms.
Acting on the information, police deployed undercover operatives on December 15, 2025, to engage the suspect. During the meeting, the suspect reportedly arrived in a military vehicle with registration number 54 GA 92 and indicated that he could supply M16 rifles, G3 rifles, pistols, and other weapons. The undercover agent agreed to purchase an M16 rifle, for which the suspect allegedly quoted a price of GH¢80,000.
On December 16, 2025, at about 2:30 p.m., the suspect contacted the agent to say the firearm, along with an additional pistol, was ready for collection. He met the agent at the Bekwai Shell Filling Station, where he was arrested while attempting to hand over the weapons.

Items retrieved at the time of the arrest included a TMM .22 assault rifle loaded with 99 rounds of ammunition and two 12-round magazines, as well as an Ash Taurus GX2 pistol with 100 rounds of ammunition and three 12-round magazines.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to selling weapons to individuals in and around Obuasi. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue, while his military superiors are expected to be formally notified.
