Frank Davies, a member of Mr. Ofori-Atta’s legal team, has sharply criticised Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, accusing him of irresponsibly disclosing details of an ongoing offshore investigation against their client despite the probe remaining inconclusive.
He condemned what he described as the Attorney General’s reckless decision to publicly parade an unfinished investigation into alleged offshore dealings involving the former finance minister.
Dr. Ayine, speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile with Samson Lardy Anyenini, disclosed that his office is working closely with foreign investigators to track what he claims are offshore financial dealings linked to Mr. Ofori-Atta, who is currently in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
According to the Attorney General, international cooperation is underway to track the alleged dealings outside Ghana.
However, reacting to the comments on JoyNews’ News Desk on Monday, January 12, Mr. Davies expressed deep disappointment in what he described as Dr. Ayine’s posture on a matter that has not been concluded.
He questioned the rationale behind publicly discussing an investigation that has not yet reached a definitive conclusion.
“You come on the radio and expose certain things just like that. You are investigating something and it is not conclusive. What is the essence of coming on air to say all these things? It is very disappointing,” he stated.
Mr. Davies insisted that if the Attorney General believes he has sufficient evidence against the former finance minister, he should proceed decisively rather than engage in public commentary.
“If the Attorney General says he is investigating something, he should conclude the investigation and charge Ken Ofori-Atta and stop coming on the radio and doing all this. That is not the work of an Attorney-General,” he added.
