Samuel Abu Jinapor, Member of Parliament for Damongo and a member of the campaign team of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has appealed to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to uphold peace, fairness and order during its presidential primary scheduled for Saturday, January 31.
His call comes as the party gears up for a closely fought contest to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
The race features former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Minister for Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Ing. Kwabena Agyepong.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Monday, January 26, Mr Jinapor stressed that the manner in which the primary is conducted will significantly shape the party’s future prospects. He noted that the behaviour of party members and stakeholders on election day would either strengthen or undermine the NPP’s path to recovery.
According to him, a transparent and well-managed process would send a strong signal of unity and readiness to return to power.
“How the NPP conducts itself on Saturday, January 31, will have far-reaching implications for the fortunes and forward march of the party,” he said.
He added that a peaceful and credible primary would mark an important step towards rebuilding confidence within the party and among the wider electorate.
“If we can conduct a peaceful, fair, orderly and decorous election, that will be a major step towards the revival of the NPP,” Mr Jinapor stated.
The Damongo MP therefore urged party members, delegates and supporters to place the collective interest of the NPP above individual ambitions, emphasising that unity after the primary would be crucial for the party’s long-term success.
