The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Wengam, and his wife, Lady Mrs. Monica Wengam, have sponsored a comprehensive medical screening and treatment programme for 135 retired pastors, their spouses, and widows of deceased ministers.
The exercise, which targeted beneficiaries across the Ashanti East, Ashanti West, and Ashanti North regions, underscored the leadership's commitment to the physical well-being of those who have dedicated their lives to the church’s service.
The medical outreach was hosted at the Lighthouse Assembly of God in Kumasi. Rev. Wengam visited the venue personally to interact with the beneficiaries, offering words of encouragement and expressing the church's gratitude for their years of spiritual labour.
The medical services were provided by the Cedar Medical Outreach Team, a specialised group of doctors, nurses, and pharmacists from the Cedar Mountain Chapel (International City Church) in East Legon.
The team provided comprehensive health checks to identify age-related conditions, immediate clinical interventions and consultations for ongoing ailments and distribution of essential medications prescribed by the medical team.
Recognising the economic challenges faced by retirees, the General Superintendent and his wife extended the outreach beyond clinical care.
Each of the 135 beneficiaries was provided with an undisclosed amount of cash, gifted to each individual to assist with their immediate personal needs.
This event marks the second time the Wengams have embarked on this specific welfare project within the Ashanti Region.
The inaugural outreach took place in February 2022 at the Emmanuel Temple Assembly of God in Kumasi.
This sustained initiative aligns with Rev. Wengam's broader "Legacy and Transformation" agenda, which prioritises the welfare of retired ministers as a core pillar of the church's administrative focus. By bringing high-quality medical teams from Accra to the Ashanti Region, the leadership continues to bridge the gap in healthcare access for the elderly within the Assemblies of God fold.
