The Minister of Education, Alex Tettey-Enyo, has endorsed a housing scheme for staff of the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service (GES) in Accra.
The housing scheme is an arrangement of the Ministry of Education with the HFC Bank as a welfare package to enhance government’s initiative to support workers to own houses throughout the country.
The Deputy Director, Public Affairs Department of the Education Ministry, Paul Kofi Krampa, confirmed this in an interview with the B&FT in Accra.
Mr. Krampa indicated the current project site is at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region.
He noted, however, that the housing project will be extended to any other part of the country chosen by the worker.
As part of the housing scheme, the HFC Bank will pay for the houses of interested workers when allocated, and determine the repayment duration for workers within a period of 20 years and below.
According to Mr. Krampa, categories for the houses are: HFC affordable type, a four-bedroom type, three-bedroom type, two bedroom type, average type, and middle-class and executive class.
Members of staff of the Education Ministry and workers of the GES who are interested in purchasing only land for their own construction work are also allowed to access the scheme by submitting copies of their pay-slips to the Welfare unit of the GES Headquarters in Accra.
An official in the Mortgage Department of HFC Bank, who confirmed the arrangement, said the housing scheme is open to all workers of the Ministry of Education and the GES who are on the payroll of the Accountant General’s Department.
He intimated that all categories of workers in the GES who have worked for five years and above qualify to access the scheme.
