An unopposed candidate contesting the NPP Ada East constituency primary, Kanor Senakey has been rejected by popular acclamation.
The delegates insisted on the acclamation after the Electoral Commission moved to introduce the candidate who is a former presiding member for Dangbe East Municipal Assembly.
Per the party's constitution, an unopposed candidate is acclaimed by the delegates but in an awkward turn of events, the delegates about 106, shouted an overwhelming ‘no’ when he was introduced.
A delegate explained to Joy News that the candidate was handpicked by some constituency executives when a more marketable aspirant ought to have been given enough support to run.
According to him, their preferred aspirant was unable to raise the needed funds to compete.
He said that aspirant is popular with the constituency and marketable enough to win the seat in 2016.
The rejection has left the constituency executives scratching their heads on the way forward. There are talks with the delegates to rescind the decision to reject Kanor Senakey.
