The Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has won the NPP Suame primaries for the opposition New Patriotic Party after shrugging off a challenge from three other contenders.
The leader who described himself as the Messi of the constituency polled 283 to put day light between him and the others. The closest had 89.
The Minority leader will go to parliament for the sixth time in a row after he was first elected in 1996.
Osei-Kyei-Mensah had been under pressure to give up his seat for a new blood but he stated emphatically that the top leaders in Parliament must be protected by the party from re-election politics.
He weighed his stature in politics as a ‘Messi’, the Barcelona football legend. The other contenders he described as ‘Don Bortey’ a local footballer with Accra Hearts of Oak.
Elsewhere, former Marketing Manager of Telecom giants MTN George Andah will represent the New Patriotic Party in the 2016 parliamentary elections after he won the Awutu Senya West constituency.
Andah polled an overwhelming 283 votes out of 541 to beat his contenders- Moses Nkansah, Joseph Aidoo, Emanuel ABbew Mensah, Emmanuel Esibu, Patrick Kwabena Amoako.
He described the victory as a beginning of good thing to happen, adding "God is sending me on a mission."
He credited the victory to hard work and strategic planning, and countering what "competition" was doing.
The marketer would face stiff opposition in the national election and is likely to face Foreign Affairs Minister Hanna Tetteh.
In the Adentan Constituency, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah has also won the primary after beating former Sports Minister Rashid Bawa.
