Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo says the election of 22- year-old student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology makes the party attractive to the youth.
Francisca Oteng Mensah beat the incumbent MP Kofi Frempong during the contest for the Kwabre East seat for the NPP.
In the same Ashanti region, 26 year old Mavis Boadu defeated incumbent MP for the Afigya Sekyere East, Hendricks Yeboah.
Adwoa Safo who is the Deputy Ranking member on the Foreign Affairs committee of Parliament says the development defeats the NDC’s long held view that the NPP discriminates against the youth on issues about governance.
"Our opponent the NDC says we are conservative and we only appeal to the old but the election of these young people makes mockery of that claim and I think this will enhance the image of the NPP among the youth of this country as we count down to the 2016 elections," she said.
Adwoa Safo who was also retained in the primaries said the young people who were elected deserve congratulations.
She also urged aspirants to reach out to their opponents in a move to forge a united front ahead of the general elections in 2016.
"Especially for Francisca the decision to contest in itself was a bold one and she deserves applause but she must balance her academic works and politics so she can play the two well," Adwoa Safo added.
