Results have started trickling in from nine constituencies in the second phase of the opposition New Patriotic Party’s polls to select parliamentary aspirants for the 2016 general elections is underway.
Delegates of nine constituencies had to cast their ballot to elect candidates across the country.
Correspondents across the country said the voting went on peacefully.
Adom FM’s Kwame Yankah reports that voting has ended in the Tema East constituency and counting has begun amid heavy security presence.
Although the process was generally peaceful, Kwame said the poll was nearly marred by allegations that an aspirant was trying to bribe the delegates.
In other constituencies, there are still issues of court injunctions and opposition to the candidature of some aspirants in the regions.
At the Ada East constituency some aggrieved party supporters have petitioned the party leadership to nullify the process seeking to acclaim unopposed aspirant Kanor Senakey’s candidature.
They said if the process is not nullified, they will proceed to court.
In the Ashanti region most of the elections have been put on hold.
Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor reported from the Adansi Akrofuom that although voting was delayed it ended quite well.
Incumbent Member of Parliament Appiah Pinkrah was elected. He polled 176 as against 92 polled by his competitor Charles Korankye.
At the Sawla Constituency in the Northern Region, former District Chief Executive James Kipo Sunyenzi picked the slot after beating two others.
He polled 276 with Natoma Awusi Mahama and Albert Wuor Obkara polling 113 and 43 respectively Martina Bugri reported.
