An Accra Fast Track High Court has sentenced a pastor, Victor Ocloo, to a jail term of five years.
Victor Ocloo was said to have collected $50,000 from a foreign based non-governmental organization (NGO) which had wanted to build a home for people living with AIDS.
Pastor Victor Ocloo collected the said money with the promise to supply the NGO with building materials for the project but failed to honour it as well as refused to refund the money.
He was convicted on two counts of defrauding by false pretence.
He is also to pay an amount of $40,000 in refund of the amount he collected.
It came up during sitting that Pastor Ocloo would have been sentenced two weeks ago but the presiding Judge Senyo Dzemefeh granted counsel’s plea for the accused to be allowed to refund the amount before his sentence, but as at today, he has paid only GH¢10,000.
Justice Dzamefeh therefore advised the complainants to file a civil suit to seek the refund of the remaining $40,000.
