The management of Coca-Cola and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) are collaborating to provide about 1.5 million dollars to improve water and sanitation in Ghana for the next three years.
Mr Philippe Ayivor, Franchise Manager, Coca-Cola Equatorial Africa, said in addition, management was providing 30 million dollars to provide potable water and improved sanitation to 300 million Africans.
Mr Ayivor was addressing a Media Soiree organised in collaboration with the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in Accra.
He explained that management was building partnership with the media because of their contribution to the development of democratic institutions and commended the media for “making politically astute citizenry in the country”.
Mr Ayivor said the media soiree would be reciprocated in all the regions before the end of the year.
Mr Ransford Tetteh, President of GJA, said it was not the intention of the association to promote media tyranny in the country or destroy society but partner government to develop the country.
He noted that nurturing the country’s fragile democracy required a strong media and called for dialogue with any individual or institution which felt aggrieved with any media publication or broadcast.
“Let us use the National Media Commission (NMC) to seek redress when aggrieved with any publication or broadcast,” he added.
